I'm not very religious and I'm not interested in giving a whole rundown on Buddhism, but it isn't really worshiping a god. Tengen definitely fits leader in this context, but you know how cults are. Wowed and charmed by someone who has an ability they don't understand, make them their everything, then twist it.

I don't know what the cult thought they'd get from Tengen, but seeing that they're basically immortal it wouldn't be a far leap to believe they're capable of more. Anyway, the cult was willing to start whole apocalypse over their stupid dogma.

This is more annoying than I thought. I didn't know they'd get wishes granted, all I heard was that they wanted to summon something, and I mean something as in they don't care what. Anything will go.

I'm not interested in wishes from a crazy cult wanting to sacrifice a group of people and a dog, so I didn't really pay that much attention to the details... But I'm pretty sure having all their wishes come true comes with it.

Very little that's relevant to our current situation.

However, some people might have something personal they're pretty desperate to make come true. In which case, partnership to become stronger might not seem like a big deal, especially if strength will help us escape...

But if one or both of them become altered, then it's a bigger mess for the rest of us.

Still don't trust that, but some people are desperate... I guess we will see.

I don't either, but we all have differing values and beliefs. Cults have believers and followers for a reason -- sometimes, they offer the irresistible and not all are immune.
