The full list of monsters at play, from the overseers.
[HELP THIS IS SO FUNNY ESPECIALLY BECAUSE HE ALSO GOT THIS LIST TODAY he just didn't stop Daan from writing it all down because he's too polite to just gawk while they're writing something...
But he will take the paper.]
Ah— Pesto mentioned this to me. Cloud and I wanted to ask after a list of abilities, which we assumed and correctly guessed would be too much help, but...
[This list! Is maybe helpful! Except:] I don't know what most of these are.
[ That's fine he writes down so much. He got this list yesterday but my depression pcs. ]
I pretty much asked the same. Hell, I'm surprised I even got this list at all, though the good it'll do. Discussing powers, confirming them and matching them to a monster is off-limits.
I agree. Bakunawa, glawackus, gumiho, koromodako, oni, and qilin are entirely foreign to me. [ The pain of having to be blind-ass to Asian monsters as me. ] Ditto and mothman... I understand the words themselves? But not really familiar with them as monsters...
Sure. Let's hope that I don't get the rug pulled out from under me and told that the vampires here don't work anything like the vampires I know of, hm?
Changeling: typically the idea of a baby spirited away and replaced with a substitute instead. Dragon: scaled, large reptilian creature. Usually winged. Often depicted breathing fire. Gargoyle: a hunched, goblin-like creature, often acting as sentinels keeping watch over certain grounds like churches and towers. Depicted most commonly as living statues. Golem: an inorganic, typically man-made creature given life through magic means. Gorgon: a mythical figure of women with snakes for hair, most infamously known for being able to turn others into stone just by looking at them. Manticore: a lion with a man's face and a scorpion's tail is the classic description, I believe. I don't remember much more beyond that. Pixie: one of the fae legends I think. Small, flighted creature, had something to do with dreams? Siren: typical sailor's tall-tale. Beautiful women who sing seafarers to their death with their alluring voices. Sphinx: a creature of legend from one of the states in Abyssonia. Has the body of a lion… lioness? And the face of a man, infamous for speaking riddles. Succubus or Incubus: female and male variants of the same concept. [ He stops and considers Lucas for a hot minute. ] Um… usually supernatural seducers. Unicorn: a mythical horse with a horn protruding from its head, hence the name. Usually has positive connotations as far as I'm aware. Vampire: an immortal humanoid that feeds off of blood.
[DON'T JUST STOP TO LOOK AT HIS CATHOLIC ASS WHEN TALKING ABOUT SUCCUBI AND INCUBI LISTEN HERE that's fair though.
He listens to all of this with rapt attention, making a bit of a face when the list is over.]
Thank you... Some of these sound as though they could be quite troublesome, if we're to assume powers generally run adjacent to the description of the creature itself.
[He still has no idea what the fck Nona was, though he thinks? Maybe?? Boothill might be connected to the snake hair lady?? SNAKE IN BOOTS??? But Erin's voice seems a good match for Siren.]
I'm inclined to believe that's mostly true, although it could manifest in pretty different forms. Like if we assume the "alluring coconut tree" is an effect of the Siren, then it means the "alluring voice" of myth is something more that can be applied to objects... which I don't think I would have suspected if I were trying to guess the ability from name alone, but makes sense in retrospective from the other direction.
I think it could help in the sense that if we find something absolutely bizarre again in the future, then we could at least theorise whether it might be a power attributable to something on the list.
Of course, shouldn't let our imaginations run too wild either, but thinking too hard on something inexplicable is also a bit of a waste of time if we could just write it off as a magical ability.
[He looks briefly but very tired at the idea of having to deal with more magic bullshit in MURDERS. But just sighs. It's fine. THIS IS FINE. THEY'RE ALL DOING FINE.]
Considering we're likely going to look at an optimistic two deaths again next week, it should come in handy when we're trying to piece apart things we've gotten stuck on.
[OPTIMISTIC!!! desperately hoping for another 5 body week because that's hilarious but Lucas does not want that at all, he wants the unrealistic and insane 0 body week.]
Yes... Even by just the smallest amount.
[He has to keep telling himself this so he doesn't fall into the pits of despair.]

[Bro he's so tired. He wants to take a ten thousand years nap. He wants the madness to end. HE WANTS TO GET OFF THE RIDE.]
Things could have gone much worse, but that feels like a cold comfort.

[ All that fire... thank you weird eldritch occult boundaries for not letting that fire spread at mach fuck. ]
Think we still have a chance?
no subject
The answer to that question always has to be "yes".
[Giving up before dying is simply not an option as far as he's concerned listen.]

I also don't know what half of these are.

We can't risk being too overt with the information we're given... [They don't want more NPCs to die.........
But he also just sighs like BLEAK.]
Finding a definition for each wound be a good place to start, I suppose.

You?

I only know of sirens through the talks at trial yesterday...
no subject
...Are any of these familiar to you...?
no subject
Of the foreign stories I've read, they have things like fairies, trolls, mermaids...
no subject
I guess pixie is probably close enough to a fairy, and a siren close enough to a mermaid...
[ He ain't got anything for trolls though. ]

Would you mind giving me a brief rundown on the ones you do know?

Ah, that's true... Which means it may not give us quite as much to go off of as one might hope. But it's better than nothing at all.
