[ I'm sorry it's just really boring nothingburgers of starters today but he is not! Just knocking back alcoholic grape juice anymore! But it's not a whole lot better when he still seems pretty blank of any emotional leaning. He can't be described as sad, or mad, or anything really.
He's out here with a small stack of papers, scribbling a new note into them, rulebook open in his other hand. ]
karlach wanders over eventually, settling down next to him. her tail wraps around where he's sitting absently, not constricting or tight, only lightly touching.]
[ He stops when she approaches, looking up. He shuts this rulebook closed, looking at the notes. She can tell it's pretty much covered in this and that, a lot of questioning lines, some crossed out, some expanded out to other questions, diagrams, maps, copies of sigils, whatnot. ]
There's a lot happening here, but there's also just a lot of downtime. [ It's kind of insane... and wildly uncomfortable, how long the days stretch between the weekends. ] If I'm going to have the time to actually process what's happening, I may as well put it down somewhere instead of carrying it around all in my head. Don't want it to burst now, do we.
... Ah, maybe I ought to start writing. [it's not fears on your face week, but maybe that's obvious in her tone regardless.] Don't know where I'd even start, though.
Just in the sense that you'd like to keep your hands busy... and the image of you sitting underneath a tree, chipping out a bunny out of a block feels like something that just makes sense.
Why, hands too fidgety? You won't be able to learn how to patch someone else if they are.
... I don't know, really. Mostly I just want you to have backup when people are hurt. It shouldn't all be on you to take care of. So - anything you've got that you think would come in handy.
[ This is true solely for the fact that I cannot predict when a CYOA will return on any given day. It could be anywhere from like 3am to 7am. ]
Sure. Basics then, at least to tide people over until you can get them to either me, Mr. Greengrass... Ms. Gainsborough or Ishtar too, I think are at least somewhat knowledgeable.
Gods, yeah, that is a pretty big switch over. I mean, good for us. Maybe not so good for you? I don't know what you like. [...] I really don't know what you like and I should, actually.

Can I ask? [what he's writing.]

About what?

[she says, head tilted.]
Just notes in general?

[sweats.]
I've never thought about doing that before. Usually I just end up yelling them. [sometimes writing is for sucks] Does it help?

Or you know. If you die, someone can just find your notebook and all the thoughts you had don't just die out with you. There's also that aspect.

[ Daan can only do so much talking and walking around. He needs a break. ]
no subject
Guess that's why I actually picked up doing the whittling thing, yeah. Hands busy.
no subject
Because of Mr. Boothill?
no subject
Maybe a bit.

[ Oh right as an aside should we handwave him teaching Karlach a few med basics or do we want to talk about it? ]
no subject
Really? I guess so. I've never thought of myself as someone that's good at little fiddly things like this.

[little tail flick.]
No, not that so much, I can manage. I'm just built more for breaking things. Even if I don't want to be.

[ He is not actually small so he can't say he's small. He's still just short of six feet. ]
You know how to bandage and all... was there anything in particular you were raring to learn?

Never been support before. [she says, amused.] It'll be a nice change of pace.

Rough job. I think I mentioned I got out of it because I could sign up to be a medic.
That was bad enough. Really not interested in being the one with the gun or sword or whatever.
no subject
[her tail flops on his arm. i've made this comparison before but it's very cat tail on the keyboard.]
I think you're better at this. At helping people. Guns and swords and things don't really suit you.
no subject
...
I don't think they suit me either.
...
My first real job was as a butler's assistant in an estate. Wouldn't have imagined I'd get into doctoring, but here I am.

...Learning medicine was fine. I preferred it, actually, to other things I was familiar with.
