[... hands him the bottle again, but her own emotions are just like, a warm and steady reassurance. hope, too, for him. maybe he won't find something like that again, maybe he will, but to have gotten to feel it at all is good too.]
Sounds beautiful. [...] Simple things like that are.
Never been on a date before, but - it's one of those things where it doesn't matter what you're doing because it's with a person you love, yeah?
[ He takes it. Pours glass, puts it back on sidetable. ]
She had ideas on what she wanted to do, but for me, yes. I'd say so.
[ She was the one who takes his hand and leads him around. Karlach can get a small blip of a memory, of young days, of being a hollow little teenager, scrawny and wearing ill-fitting butler's clothes, hair tidied and neat for the first introduction to the Baron and his daughter officially.
You set your eyes on her and the instant you do, you feel something in you change. She smiles at you and you can hardly breathe. 'Someone my age for once,' she says with delight, and grabs your hand. It feels like she's broken past a barrier without trying, pulling you into her light, to show you her favourite books, the nook where she hides from the other servants, the private stashes that she makes you promise to also keep secret from her father with a mischievous grin. And you, all the while, tenderly holding these moments, scared to walk in this light and be seen, but she doesn't seem to ever mind, and over time, you feel you could almost get used to it. ]
[she lives that memory for the couple of moments that it's around. it makes her sad, but not devastated. wistful, maybe. bittersweet. and when she comes out of it, she's a little teary.]
... Ah, Daan.
[she says, soft.]
She was really good for you. Wish I could've met her.
[ His rare sweeter memories... even if they are tinted with a bit of melancholy in hindsight. Anyway he remembers Karlach is a romantic so this is a little bit embarrassing. ]
...Think she would've been quite taken with you... You would've had to field many questions about your physiology or the Hells though. She is the doctor's daughter, and had quite the curiosity about the occult as well.
[she is absolutely a romantic and also, she's tipsy, so she's just like all ooguhghgh about it.]
She would've been nice about it! I don't mind questions if they're nice. I do mind if they're rude. [tail swish, as she rolls over to lay on her stomach, flat out on the bed.]
I don't know if I'd call the Hells occult. I guess it sort of is, from where you come from.
It's close enough. As I might've mentioned, the magic and supernatural are actually exceedingly rare in every-day life across most of Prehevil. I'm quite the exception in those matters... and why the Baron was particularly accepting of me, I'm sure.
[ It's evident that he doesn't think if it weren't for that, he would've been permitted to court Elise. He has a lot of complicated thoughts and emotions regarding this, but he shoves it aside. They were having a nice conversation. ]
I never found her questions directed towards me to be rude... but I may have also always been biased.
Well, who wouldn't be biased, with a lady like her.
[hums.]
The two of you seemed meant for each other. [obviously karlach thinks it's nonsense that he was allowed, because in her mind it's not about allowance. obviously, soulmates are soulmates. obviously.]
... You sure you wouldn't want to try to see her again, if you got a wish?
[her tone is light - like if he doesn't want to talk about it, he doesn't have to. but.]
...I mean it with all politeness I can muster, but don't.
[ He really did think about it, pondered the what-if. He could have chosen to do so and hope she would live the rest of her life in peace without him, because for reasons, he feels like he can't go back to her -- but then certain people said certain things and it started hurting too much to dig himself deeper into that hole. ]
I got to remember her in that venture, see her again in her best days instead of whatever that thing was that I saw in Prehevil, that tried to twist her memory into something else.
[a little sigh, but - she doesn't argue. it's not up to her, and she's got her own hangups that she hates when people pick at, so she lets that go. instead, she just watches him for a moment.
softer, in that sort of floaty drunk way:]
D'you think you're going to let yourself be happy again someday?
she is absolutely eeby, and she'll allow this. he gets to feel the little safe and warm emotions she feels when he puts the blanket over her, and she'll probably pass out pretty soon after.]
